December Holiday: Schools to Close for 15 Days – Official Reason Explained

As the winter season approaches, many are wondering about school holiday schedules. Here’s what you need to know about potential winter breaks in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Winter Vacation Schedule in Bihar

Like previous years, the government is expected to announce school winter holidays based on its established schedule. Typically, schools in Bihar observe winter vacations from December 25th to December 31st, lasting seven days. This period includes Christmas and Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. Schools usually reopen on January 1st.

UP Winter Vacation 2025: A 15-Day Break?

In Uttar Pradesh, there’s a high likelihood that winter vacations will begin around December 25th. Most schools and colleges typically close around Christmas, providing students with approximately 15 days of holiday. These holidays usually last until early or mid-January.

While the Education Department hasn’t released an official notification yet, past trends suggest that schools generally close from December 25th and reopen after the New Year. Official dates will be confirmed once the cold intensifies and the final order is issued. For now, it’s reasonable to expect winter vacation to start around December 25th.

Bihar Winter Holidays: A Look Back at 2024

In 2024, Bihar’s winter vacation was initially scheduled from December 26th to January 6th. However, due to increased cold, it was extended until January 11th for classes 1 to 8. This year, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings about a potential temperature drop starting November 24th. Regions like Patna and Muzaffarpur may experience temperatures below 10°C. Aurangabad has already recorded temperatures as low as 13°C. Considering these conditions, the Education Department might issue an additional notice to protect children’s health.

While no extension has been announced yet, an update is anticipated by the end of December. Winter vacations for classes 1 to 5 may be announced soon. Morning fog and extreme cold can be detrimental to children’s well-being. In most schools, winter holidays typically span from late December to early January, but the weather remains the deciding factor.

When Will the Final Announcement Be Made?

As in previous years, the Bihar government is expected to release the final notification in the third or fourth week of December. Keep an eye on the Education Department’s website and notifications from your district DEO (District Education Officer) office for updates.
